Life Lessons from my 1st Bungy Jump Experience @ AJ Hackett Macau

BUNGY JUMP- Is more exciting than scary. A few Years ago, I bungee jumped off the 233 meter Macau Tower and plummeted towards the concrete floor below. It was one of the most thrilling and exhilarating experiences in my life.
Not when they weighed me, not when they started to gear me up, not when I was called to stand outside on the deck, not when they harnessed me, not when they asked me to stand at the edge of the deck. It was only when they started the countdown, I was biting my tongue and I started breathing heavily.
Being scared isn’t easy but it’s fun. Listed below are few of the things that Bungy jump taught me.

• Letting it go - Anyone who bungee jumps for the first time has an overwhelming rush of feelings – fretfulness, exhilaration and fear all at once. It took me 2 good years to convince my family that BUNGY JUMPING IS SAFE. One of my biggest weaknesses is that I have a tendency to think too much and over analyse things before I make a decision. What I learnt from bungee jumping, is that the longer you wait to take the leap, the more time you have to make excuses and convince yourself to back out. Sometimes in life you just have to take that leap of faith. Close your eyes, jump and everything will work out.

 

• Look beyond Fear - I was terrified before my jump, not so much so of the rope snapping, but of the unknown. Of letting go of fears that were holding me back from jumping, and living. It’s those that can conquer their fears, no matter how great or small, that generally get further in life than those who settle for the safety confines of mediocrity.

 

• A good team is crucial - The crew at AJ Hackett Bungy Macau was nothing short of exceptional. Everyone knew his/her role and executed it to perfection. This went a long way to making the jumpers feel more at ease. Surround yourself with people who refuse to let you fail. Don’t try and do everything yourself (something I often struggle with). And make sure you choose wisely.

 

• Trust that things will work out - When you’re free-falling at more than 100 km/h with no feeling or sight of anything attached to your body, the thought definitely crosses your mind of: “What if this doesn't go right?” But then it does. We have no way of knowing what will happen in the future, whether it’s 5 minutes or 5 years away. So learn to have faith that things will happen as they should.

  

• Learn to be good with discomfort - One of the most important skills you can develop is being okay with some discomfort. The best things in life are often hard, and if you shy away from difficulty and discomfort, you’ll miss out. You’ll live a life of safety.Learning is hard. Building something great is hard. Writing a book is hard. A marriage is hard. Running an ultra-marathon is hard but if someone out there has done then you can also do it.
